Arjun- the Kingmaker
Arjun was the prince who would never become King, being younger than his siblings. He knew it and never aspired for the throne or crown. Yet, he was majorly instrumental in bestowing the throne/ crown/ kingdom upon others.
1} AHICCHATRA: Drona had faced abject poverty and experienced its humiliation too. When Arjun gave Gurudakshina , Panchala kingdom was split into halves. Drona retained AHICCHATRA for himself, thus elevating his status (and of Ashwatthama) to a KING.
[‘I retain half thy kingdom, O Drupada.' Thus, was the territory of Ahicchatra full of towns and cities, obtained by ARJUNA, and BESTOWED upon Drona.']
2} INDRAPRASTHA: Yudhishtir was made the crown prince. Yet the powerful Pandavas had to stay in disguise for years after Lakshyagriha, biding the time till they gained power, wealth and allies.
This opportunity came via their alliance with Panchala and Dwarka. It was only after Draupadi’s marriage that Hastinapur were forced to recall the Pandavas and hand over Khandav.
Marriage to Draupadi was SOLELY Arjuna’s triumph. The transformation of a barren Khandav to prosperous Indraprastha took team effort. Mayasura’s life and his grateful gift of Mayasabha was again largely Arjuna’s victory for his king.
[Dhritarashtra addressing Yudhishthira, said, 'Listen, O son of Kunti. Repair ye to Khandavaprastha. Protected by Arjuna, like the celestials by the thunderbolt, reside ye there, taking half of the kingdom.']
3} HIRANYAPURA & Swarga's Capital CITY:
Arjun won back Indra's original capital city from Nivatkavachas. IN addition, he also won the HIRANYAPURA CITY from Kalakeyas.
['Beholding that excellent city, I asked Matali, 'Why do not the celestials reside in such a place?’
Matali said, 'In days of yore, O Partha, even this was the CITY OF OUR LORD of the celestials. Afterwards the celestials were driven from hence by the Nivata-Kavachas. They had gratified the Grand-father and had obtained the boon-- that they might be free from danger in wars with the gods.'] CLXXI
['The self-create conferred boons on Kalakeyas --that they might be incapable of being destroyed even by the gods; and that they might obtain a highly effulgent aerial HIRANYAPURA city, furnished with gems and INVINCIBLE even by the celestials.']
Arjun’s ambitions were all rooted in gaining knowledge and besting himself. Never did he aspire to utilize that knowledge for personal gains. He was always the noble and selfless Kingmaker.
