MISCONCEPTION : LORD HANUMANA HELPED ARJUNA BY SITTING IN HIS FLAGSTAFF
This is a common misconception among many people that Lord Hanumana was helping Arjuna in Virata and Kurukshetra war but in this post I will clear this misconception.
The thread is divided in two parts
1. Misconception : Lord Hanumana was present in Virata and Kurukshetra war.
2. Misconception : Lord Hanumana neutralized the energy of Arjuna's enemies
1. MISCONCEPTION : LORD HANUMANA WAS PRESENT IN VIRATA AND KURUKSHETRA WAR.
It is also a big misconception that Lord Hanumana was present in two most amazing wars of the epic.To clear this I am posting here the narrative of the meeting of Lord Hanumana and Bhima which took place in Vana Parva
Narrative :- [ Hanuman To Bhima]
And, O highly powerful one, O hero, when thou shall give leonine roars, then shall I with my own, add force to shouts. Remaining on the flagstaff of Arjuna's car will I emit fierce shouts that will damp the energy of thy foes. Thereby ye will slay them easily.'

In this narrative Lord Hanumana had promised Bhima that he will be present on Arjuna's chariot but he didn't told Bhima that when will he sit on Arjuna's chariot. That celestial ape which was sitting on Arjuna's chariot in both the wars was a creation of Lord Vishwakarma and was given to Arjuna in Khandava Dahan Parva which took place much before the meeting of Lord Hanumana and Bhima. So definitely that ape was not Lord Hanumana
Conclusion:- Lord Hanumana was absent in Virata and Kurukshetra war.
2. MISCONCEPTION :- LORD HANUMANA NEUTRALIZED THE ENERGY OF ARJUNA's ENEMIES
It is also a common misconception that Lord Hanumana helped Arjuna by neutralizing the energy of his foes.First of all I have proved above that Lord Hanumana was not present in Virata and Kurukshetra war but still if there is any chance of Lord Hanumana being present in any of these wars as he had promised Bhima doesn't mean that he had helped Arjuna because in that narrative of Vana Parva Lord Hanumana told Bhima that he will help Arjuna by damping the energy of his foes but in the whole epic there is no mention of the energy of Kuru warriors being damped by Lord Hanumana. Yes there is some mention of Kuru warriors getting afraid by hearing the roars of that celestial ape which was sitting on Arjuna's chariot but getting feared for sometime doesn't effect warrior's capacity as Arjuna was also got feared by Nivatkavachas and Kalakeyas but still he managed to destroy all of them.
Conclusion :- Lord Hanumana never helped Arjuna
- CHAMPION
